Can getting just 1% better really make a difference?
In Chapter One of Atomic Habits, James Clear makes the case that small choices compound over time—and the systems behind those choices often matter more than the goals themselves.
Three ideas stood out to me: small improvements can eventually produce big results, progress is often invisible before it becomes obvious, and goals give us direction while systems actually move us forward.
I also reflect on my own experience recovering from a serious high school athletic injury and eventually becoming a college athlete—and why having ambitious goals didn’t always mean my daily systems supported them.
We don’t have to transform ourselves tomorrow. We just have to keep making small improvements today and give them enough time to matter.
