What if being a little lazy could actually help you build better habits?
In Chapter Twelve of Atomic Habits, James Clear explores the Law of Least Effort and explains why making good habits easier can lead to lasting change.
Four ideas stood out to me: choosing the easier path isn’t always a bad thing, reducing friction makes good habits more likely, lowering the bar helps us get started, and the hardest step is often going from zero to one.
I also reflect on my own tendency to overcomplicate things—and why removing obstacles may be more effective than relying on motivation or willpower.
The goal isn’t to avoid hard work. It’s to make getting started so easy that we actually do the work.
Until next time, remember: small choices become habits, habits shape who we become, and change happens one day at a time.
