Why do some habits become automatic—even when we know they’re not good for us?
In Chapter Three of Atomic Habits, James Clear explains how habits form and how we can begin changing them.
Three ideas stood out to me: habits are solutions to problems, every habit follows a four-step loop, and changing our behavior becomes easier when we understand what triggers it.
Clear introduces the Four Laws of Behavior Change: make it obvious, make it attractive, make it easy, and make it satisfying.
I also reflect on how easily our brains develop automatic responses—from morning coffee to checking social media when we’re supposed to be working.
The first step toward building better habits may simply be noticing the ones we already have.
Until next time, remember: small choices become habits, habits shape who we become, and change happens one day at a time.
