How much of what you want to do are you saving for someday?
In Book Three of Meditations, Marcus Aurelius reminds himself that time is limited—but so are the abilities and opportunities we possess right now. His message isn’t simply to remember that we will die. It’s to remember that we are alive today.
In this episode, I explore three lessons that stood out to me: don’t wait to start living well, accept that change and imperfection are part of life, and protect your mind and character by keeping your principles close.
Marcus challenges us to use our abilities while we have them, stop allowing other people’s opinions to dominate our thoughts, and practice virtues like courage, justice, truth, and self-control before the moment arrives when we desperately need them.
There is work you can do now. There are people you can help now. There are things you can learn now. And there is a person you can begin becoming now.
Don’t wait for the perfect time. The time is now.
Remember, the lessons are older than we are and just as relevant today.
